Play Waterproof Golf
For today’s keen golfer waterproof golf is not so easily achievable, because if you were to sum up the weather in one word these days it would probably have to be, to put it mildly ‘unreliable’.
When you’re looking forward to your day on the golf course there can be nothing worse than being caught out by the weather and not being dressed for the occasion.
The forecast in the morning may have been for ‘Mr Blue Sky’, but when you take out your driver on the first tee and dark clouds begin to gather, it can be disheartening to say the least.
When by hole nine the rain starts to fall you will be regretting not having packed the waterproofs … been there and got the wet tee shirt, wet shorts, and wet everything else come to think of it!
If you have packed the right gear however, you can carry on golfing regardless of the odd shower or three, and avoid the disappointment of having to head back to the car, soaked to the skin, and feeling very much under the weather!
Clothing
Invest in some decent waterproof golf clothing and you will be almost certain to get your money’s worth as in many places nowadays you can depend on the weather to be inconsistent!
A Waterproof Golf Suit is lightweight, takes up very little room, and can be easily rolled up or folded and kept in your golf bag.
Golf Shoes A decent pair of golf shoes will keep your feet warm and dry and your swing will be less likely to be affected as you will have a firm footing on the wet ground.
A Hat is important to keep the rain off your face. They come in various shapes and sizes, bucket types are popular.
Gloves can be tricky as it is difficult to get waterproof ones, so it’s best to carry spares.
Stay Positive / Adapt To The Conditions
As long as the rain isn’t too heavy it is still possible to enjoy your golf in wet weather. When it starts to rain just slip on your waterproof suit, and if conditions deteriorate, shelter under your golf umbrella until the rain eases off, and then it’s back to business.
You just have to take up the challenge and keep in a positive frame of mind. There’s no point in going on if you are in a bad mood and constantly blaming the rain for a bad piece of play, you have to be patient and understand that your score is going to suffer. The good thing about having to cope with different weather conditions is it will actually make you a better golfer; and the worse the weather the more pleasurable it is when you play well.
It’s not only about keeping dry, you will also have to adjust your game in bad weather. Consider that you may need much more height as the ball might not cover as much distance in the air, and the greens are going to be far slower.
Waterproof Equipment
Golf Bags sometimes have a rain hood to help keep your equipment dry; if not buy one separately.
Golf Carts can have golf umbrella holders which not only keep your bag dry but also make it so much easier to get your clubs in and out when it’s raining.
Golf Umbrella It must be a sturdy golf umbrella not something cheap and nasty that will blow inside out in the slightest gust of wind
Hand Towels If you can keep your hands and clubs reasonably dry with hand towels your grip shouldn’t be affected too much.
Keeping your gear clean between golf trips is important too, leaving them in the bag can cause them to deteriorate and smell. When you get home better to remove any wet or dirty clothes and equipment and get them clean and dry for the next time you play.
The weather can be frustrating these days but golf can still be enjoyable whatever the weather!
Happy golfing, even when it’s raining … and play Waterproof Golf!
