I for one believed as many others did that we would not be seeing Tiger Woods return to professional golf in the first half of this year. When he announced his statement on February 19th, (his first public appearance since the scandal hit) he looked like a broken man. It looked and sounded as though golf was the last thing on his mind. He was going into rehab the following day and of his 15 minute statement, less than 1 minute of this was spent talking about golf.

Over the last week there has been much speculation about his return. Reports are that his wife, Elin, is prepared to give him another chance for the sake of their two children. Tiger is back living at home and has been encouraged by his rehab program to get back into his daily golf and fitness routine. He has been photographed back practicing on his home course of Isleworth. Reports are now coming out that Tiger is working with Hank Haney, his swing coach that has helped him win the last 6 of his 14 majors.

Tiger is not participating at this weeks WGC at Doral, Miami but speculation is that he will return in a few weeks time at the made-for-TV Tavistock Cup. This is a tournament that is closed to the public and takes place at his local course Isleworth where he has been spending recent days practicing. If he returns for the Tavistock Cup it is likely he will play in the Arnold Palmer Classic just days later before the first major of the year, the Masters in the second week of April.

Jack Nicklaus has even said that he expects Tiger to play the Masters as this if one of his favourite tournaments. Jack Nicklaus won 18 majors and Tiger is currently on 14. For Tiger to considered undisputed best golf player ever I think he has to beat Nicklaus’ record of 18 major wins. Tiger has so far won 71 times on the PGA tour whereas Nicklaus has won 73 times on the tour. I think it is only a matter of time until Tiger beats this record but the major record is a little more in doubt.

Personally I cannot wait for Tiger to return. I love watching him play and I don’t think the major tournaments will be the same without him. Whilst the recent scandal has put shame on his private life he is still the worlds number one golfer and is a great player to watch. Tiger is a very determined golfer and I would not be surprised if he comes back better than ever and does the grand slam this year to tie with Nicklaus’ 18 major wins. I have never considered Tiger to have an interesting and fun personality such as Mickelson but he is such a crowd favourite because he can do things with a golf ball that other plays can only dream of.

So to sum up, it will be Tiger to win the Masters in a months time unless he delays his return in which case I hope the winner is Mcilroy or Mickelson.
