A Detailed Evaluation of Slazenger Golf Clubs

Slazenger has been long known as a ball manufacturer and the balls are excellent; however, what of their range of clubs? There has been some discussion and concern that they do not look like a high quality club. However, is this just fear of the unknown or is there any truth in the matter?

Slazenger golf clubs come in the whole range as expected. Let’s start with their Big Ezee Iron, which are big irons that have added weight on them. They are long and strong but can they deliver the goods? Reviews are mixed which doesn’t come as any surprise, and some of us liked using the iron. Some felt that it wasn’t particularly good and would rather stick to their iron of choice.  It does carry quite a punch so it may take shots off your game as the length and weight combination do see the ball flying nicely across the green, if you do not find the iron too heavy and can get a good swing with it.

They offer a range of putters and again these vary in price. $140 is an average price and the putters seem to have been better received. We enjoyed testing these and there was much more agreement that this was an excellent example of a good putter. It seemed to help get more accuracy, which is always good.

All the clubs we handled from Slazenger had a good feel to them and we didn’t find any reason to agree with the negative comments. We found the build quality to be good. They all felt as we would expect; a good weight for the irons, for example.  The handgrip was good on all of them, the shape was ergonomic, and they felt comfortable and natural to hold which is always good if you are on the green for the day.

In terms of price the Slazenger golf clubs seemed to be on a par (pardon the pun!) with what you would expect to pay. These are not high end clubs but are at the more affordable end of the market, and if you are fairly new to golf they offer a selection of each type of club which vary in price, meaning you actually get a wide range of choice.

Based on what we found it would be fair to say that Slazenger are a good range for those who are just starting in the world of golf, so if this is your first set of clubs we think you will enjoy using them and that you will be able to improve your performance. They are unlikely to appeal to the professional golfer, but then they are not priced to do so.

Players at a higher level are not going to look in this cost band, and its not that Slazenger are offering anything substandard but it would be unfair to say they are not making professional level clubs, which is one of the rumors we have heard, as they do not profess that they are.  We think Slazenger should be given a break and their clubs enjoyed at the level they were intended for.

With such a myriad of golf clubs on the market, it can be extremely hard to decide where to buy from and which brand to use. Tour golf clubs offer a massive selection of clubs in all categories and are definitely worth considering.

They offer extensive customer services, and as well as a range of their own clubs they offer a range of ‘clone’ clubs, which have been designed to closely reflect some of the professional club ranges and offer you a clone at a much more affordable price. They aim to mimic the technologies used by the leading brands so the clubs are as close as possible to the real deal.

It is an interesting idea, and if it keeps proving to be so good it will definitely help the entry-level golfer improve his game quicker by playing with high-end clubs that have been cloned and are now affordable.

Tour clubs can be bought in the way that suits you best. Whether you are looking for a whole set as a beginner or whether you want to mix and match brands to create a kit of your own, it is all right there on their website. The information is clearly laid out in an easy to read, easy to use format which is always a bonus as not everyone enjoys using the internet.

There are four main brands that they clone, and these are Nike, Taylormade, Ping and Callaway. They are so sure that you will think this is the best club you have ever owned that they are more than happy to offer a thirty day money back guarantee, so you really don’t have a lot to lose.  These clones are impressive.

They have very close styling to the real deal, so from a distance your fellow golfer would be forgiven for thinking that you do indeed hold the real Nike club in your hand. As the performance is so good, you may even forget yourself that this is in fact a clone!

Tour have clubs to appeal to all, and they offer a comprehensive selection of clubs for the female golfer as well as a good selection for the left handed golfer, so no one misses out here. They really do seem to have thought over everything and everyone.  There is a massive range on offer and the prices are good, so you really are going to find something to suit your pocket and your needs.

We have to say that the knowledge of their staff was good, too. We called several times with different queries and the staff always had a helpful response. It was clearly from a knowledge of golf, which reassured us that they really knew the golf market.

We don’t seem to be alone in thinking that they are good as there was a range of positive comments on the website, and the internet is littered with other articles that found, as we did, that Tour are good, the clubs are excellent, and yes it is safe to say that Tour golf clubs could be your best choice!

The lovely people at Bag Boy offer a wide range of bags. Whether you are looking for a cart bag or a stand they are sure to have a bag to suit your needs.  Their website is extremely professional, making finding the bag for you easy as pie.

Available in six color combinations, the clip lock stand bag is a revolution in bags with a stand as it only weighs just over 5.5lbs, making it far lighter than many other stand bags on the market. The first thing that struck us was the fact that it looks good. We would be more than happy to have this bag on the course with us, as it looks like a professional bag.

The Bag Boy stand bag features 14 individual locking points using clip lock technology which will hold 14 of you clubs securely in place, which is really excellent as it also offers full length box dividers preventing any crashing together of the clubs and lessening the chance of damage which is another really useful feature.

It has lots of genuinely nice extras like a water bottle holder pocket, space for tees and pens plus a pocket for any valuables that you may want to keep safe, which is fur lined for added protection.  Add to this the waterproof cover, which is included in the price (and not all companies give this away; many make you buy it as an extra) and you will see why we were so impressed with the stand bag on offer from Bag Boy.

Bag Boy golf bags also include a range of cart bags, and there are currently three styles on offer. Again, we were impressed by the initial look and the color options are fantastic. With a more classic looking bag to a bright modern bag, you get a chance to add a bag to suit your personality and a splash of extra color to the course.  Their proudest offering is the ‘Revolver Pro’.

This is a bag that has won awards for its design and functionality, so we can understand why they want to sing its praises.  Firstly they can boast that the Bag Boy Revolver Pro was picked by Gold Digest to appear on their Gold Hot List, and secondly in 2009, the bag was selected as the Golfers Choice Award Winner in the First Half Bi-Annual selection, which again is an excellent achievement and true testament to this bag’s quality.

This Bag Boy golf bag features, as the name suggests, a revolving center column that features space for 14 clubs, and whilst this is heavier than some bags because of the revolving compartment, it is nevertheless an excellent idea and makes selecting clubs easy.

The company are brilliant at including extras in the price, so again the rain cover comes as standard which is a nice touch and extremely useful.  The strap has been ergonomically designed and lifting the bag from cart to course is easy and comfortable which is always a bonus.

There are a huge myriad of golf stand bags on the market, so knowing where to start looking could be difficult. What are the most popular stand bags on offer at the moment? For many people a stand bag is vital. They want to walk the course rather than use a golf cart, so having a light weight, practical and durable stand is pretty vital to really enjoy the game in full.  There are many leading manufacturers out there and they have a wide range of golf stand bags on offer.

Golf stand bags tend to fall into three categories; those that are very light in weight, the ‘ultra light’ class, and the ‘cross over bags’ which are designed to be an all round bag, allowing you to stand it when needed but use it in the cart when you have decided to use a cart. Sun Mountain makes a very light stand bag. It weighs in at just over 3.5lb and has a good designed handle making it possible to carry the bag over both shoulders, evenly distributing the weight so that you are not risking back problems.

The stand works very well and the bag is available in 9 different color ways, allowing you to choose the one that best suits your personality.  The stand has been designed to distribute the weight well, and has wide bottomed feet to prevent the stand sinking into the grass, which is not only frustrating but does damage the green in the long run.

Confidence and Orlimar also make some excellent golf stand bags, and again they have thought about strap design and weight well, making their bags easy to carry as well. Prices do vary but you can get some cracking gold stand bags for just over $100, and if you look in the sales there will be some excellent deals that may take it below that figure.

Looking today for example, we could have purchased the Mizuno RenegadeTM for just under $100. This is a simply brilliant example of an entry level bag, suitable for the new golfer yet featuring all the things you would expect to find, and does include the all important rain cover, meaning that you won’t get water in the bag or risk damaging your kit.

Nike go one better and offer a full price bag at $80, which currently can be purchased in the sale for $20 less – a cracking bargain from a well know sports company, so you instantly know that you are going to be looking at a quality bag here. There are no color options. This one is blue but it looks stylish and we would be more than happy to be seen on the course with it.

For the more serious level golfer we have to say that the Ogio Golf Nexos stand bag is impressive. It is at the top end of the range so will set you back over $250, but that said it really does look good. The muted softer colors seem to give it a more professional edge. It is one classy looking bag and again the features are all there. We couldn’t find any issues with this one.

With an increasing number of women finding the pleasure of the golf course an attraction for them, it is no wonder many companies have started targeting the female market with their product, and Ladies Golf Bags are no exception. We have to say there are some excellent examples out there that are sure to impress.

Ladies golf bags tend to be lighter in weight than some of the male versions, and they are available both as cart bags and stand bags, leaving you free to choose what style you would prefer.  There are some cross over bags out there too, for those who sometimes cart and sometimes walk the course. All are slightly lighter to carry, allowing for the fact that women are not always as tall as men and may find a heavier bag causing them to suffer with a bad back, neck or shoulders the next day.

Added to this, the manufacturers have gone for ‘girly’ colors to appeal more to the female player, although in fairness not all women want baby pink everywhere! That said, although some brands have gone down the stereotypical women like pink route, thankfully others have just gone for bright colors that just work together to offer a feminine look without resorting to pink, pink and more pink!

We have to say that we particularly like the Precept Golf Ladies Performance cart bag. This is available in orange and white, lime green and white, or a pale purple and white, which is the true girly choice if you do like to look ultra feminine on the course. The bag itself has all the features we would expect to find. It has 14 full length pockets to keep your clubs from knocking together and getting damaged, and plenty of other pockets for tees, drinks, and valuables that you want to take with you.

For those of you who just can’t let go of the whole pink style then Precept offers a seriously girly bag, mainly pink with pretty candy stripes in a rainbow of colors, and they have thoughtfully added a small handbag that matches perfectly and allows you one seamless look.  If you are looking for a stand bag, fear not! There are just as many ladies golf bags out there that have the attached stand, and again there is a massive range of more feminine colors to tantalize and impress you, starting this time with that must have pink.

Datrek Ladies Storm bag is nicely styled in pink and black and stands well on the course, the color matched legs coping well with any terrain. It is a mid range bag that has many of the features you would expect to find in any good stand bag, including a waterproof cover in case you get caught in a shower.  Nike offers an excellent ladies stand bag that is gray and black, which looks smart without being flowery and is an excellent light weight bag for a woman who doesn’t need the girly colors as part of her kit.
